Buttermilk Fried Shrimp
These buttermilk fried shrimp are flavorful and easy to make. I hope you thoroughly enjoy them.
- 1 lb raw, large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 tbsp hot sauce ((cayenne pepper sauce))
- 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 tsp seasoned salt (or to taste)
- 1 tsp black pepper (or to taste)
- 1 1/2 tsp Old Bay Seasoning
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp dried oregano ((optional))
- vegetable or canola oil for frying
In a medium-size bowl, combine and whisk together all-purpose flour, salt, seasoned salt, pepper, Old Bay Seasoning, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and oregano.
In another medium-size bowl, mix the buttermilk and hot sauce.
Lightly coat each shrimp in the flour mixture, dip it into the buttermilk mixture, then dredge it once more in the flour mixture. Set the shrimp aside until you have coated them all. This way, the process will go more smoothly when you begin frying.
Heat 2 1/2 – 3 inches of cooking oil to 350°. Place half of the shrimp into the oil and cook for about 1-2 minutes (or until golden brown). Remove the shrimp from the oil and place them on a napkin or prepared wire rack to drain. Repeat with the remaining shrimp, and enjoy!
